First race for Valtteri Bottas at Albert Park at the wheel ofAlfa Romeo and first experience ever of Guanyu Zhou on the same track: it is with these perspectives that the Swiss team presents itself with its own line-up at Melbourne two years after the last race, on a modified circuit compared to the last edition of Australian Grand Prix held in 2019. An unprecedented challenge for all participating drivers, regardless of the experience of each in the top racing series.
In this sense, the Finnish number 77 will also have to face a different scenario from the one that saw him winner in the last race valid for this singular GP: “I love coming to Australia – has explained Bottas – I’ve been spending quite a bit of time here lately over the winter break (the partner of the Scandinavian rider is the Australian cyclist Tiffany Cromwell), and it’s one of my favorite places. For this and many other reasons, I am happy to be able to race in Melbourne again: Albert Park is a very interesting circuit, and the work done before this year’s race, as well as the new generation cars, should make the race much more exciting. We are eager to show our pace here, because we know we can fight with most of the cars on the grid – we are confident of being able to take home pointsbut it is important to do our job well, because we have seen how competitive the entire field is ”.
While the former Mercedes will therefore have to adapt to a different track from the one faced previously, the Chinese Zhou instead, he will have to approach a route never experienced before, however with the aim of canceling the double penalty obtained in the last round in Saudi Arabia: “Melbourne is a special race – underlined number 24 – I remember that for a long time it was the opening GP of several world championships, and this conveyed a unique feeling. I’m really excited to be here and can’t wait to get to know the track, as this is a whole new place for me. The first practice session will be very important to gain full confidence with the layout, but I’m not too worried. My main goal is to get the most out of the car, like every other weekend. We are back from two positive races, but we have seen how completing the weekend well is the key to bringing home the points. We can perform another performance at the level we expect and fight towards the top of the table. I feel really comfortable within the team and this confidence translates into high expectations. Take home a good result in Melbournein a city with such a large Chinese community, would be great“.
