Bottas is still aiming for Q3: “I don’t want to give it up” – F1 Piloti – Formula 1

The positive moment of theAlfa Romeo at the start of the 2022 World Cup, especially with its new ‘leader’ Valtteri Bottas. The Finn, who for the occasion decided to adopt a new helmet livery, in fact concluded the first day of the weekend valid for the Australian Grand Prix with an excellent 7th place in PL2, perfecting the tenth position obtained in the previous session.

In this way, the former Mercedes driver prepares to leave behind the bad sporting memories of Jeddah, where he closed his race prematurely due to a technical problem: “I’m pretty happy with where we are and I think I have one realistic chance to keep my Q3 streak in a rowI don’t want to give up on this – commented number 77 – is our goal; if we set the car up right tonight we should be fighting for a place in the top ten. We were able to race with different compounds today, and the way they work reflects more or less what we expected, so we are confident we can use them well. Besides, I haven’t suffered from too much degradation, which is good. Overall, I am satisfied – added a radiant Bottas – I also really like the new track layout. It’s fast, overtaking should be easier, but not too much: I think they did a good job ”.

Different speech, however, for your teammate Guanyu Zhou‘subscriber’ to the 15th place in both sessions held at Albert Park, never faced by the Chinese driver before: “The first impact with this track was quite interesting – has explained – probably not quite what I imagined. I’ve done a lot of testing in the simulator, but it’s only when you’re really here that you realize how close you are to the grass and how small and narrow the track is. It’s a difficult track, but I like it: it’s nice to drive and I’m picking up the pace. I’m still learning about the car and how to get the most out of it all over the weekend – having to learn a new track is an extra challenge, but I like it, it’s not a big deal. Our pace looks competitive, and I’m optimistic for tomorrow. We still have a lot of work to do with the engineers, so hopefully we can find more overnight. If we put our tour together, we should find ourselves in a good place ”.
