From 3 to 9 April the great Tennis in Liguria with the Challenger Tournament of Sanremo. The press conference held today
Sanremo and Liguria are ready to host a new and important international tennis event. From Sunday 3 to Saturday 9 April the ATP Challenger Sanremo Tournament will be held organized by Tennis Sanremo with the collaboration of the Regional Committee of the Italian Tennis Federation, the patronage and support of the Liguria Region, the Municipality of Sanremo, the Province of Imperia, the Casino of Sanremo, Coni and Federtennis.
Founded by a colony of English residing in the Riviera di Ponente with the name of “Tennis and Bridge Club”, President Matteo Civarolo’s Tennis Sanremo celebrates its first 125 years of life in 2022 and celebrates them with a very special event. From Sunday 3, the starting date of the qualifiers, to Saturday 9 April (final at 11 am) the three courses of Corso Matuzia 28 (free admission) will be the scene of the challenges of the prestigious international men’s singles tournament with prize money equal to 45,000 euros. Main sponsor: Acqua Eva.
The qualifying draw will see 24 players compete. (3 wild cards). The singles draw will consist of 32 players (4 wild cards). The doubles draw will consist of 24 pairs (2 wild cards). The winner of the tournament will total 80 ATP points.
The spotlights will be on Gianluca Mager (best ranking 65 ATP), born in 1994 and raised in Sanremo and trained by the Sanremo Tennis Team of the technical manager Matteo Civarolo. The listed entry list also features the eighteen year old Danish Holger Rune, the youngest player in the top 100 ATP. Attention also to Flavio Cobolli, Roman, 19, 165 ATP and fresh winner of the Challenger of Zadar in Croatia. The 33-year-old Latvian Ernests Gulbis, in 2014 among the top 10 ATP tennis players, is hunting for a prestigious result to get closer to the top of the world rankings. Thomas Fabbiano (best ranking 70 ATP) is one of the most talented Italian tennis players, currently at home at Tennis Sanremo where the 21-year-old Matteo Arnaldi, currently 355 ATP, also trains. He is also keeping an eye on the thirty-one-year-old Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert (best ranking 36 ATP, currently 111) and Dutchman Robin Haase (best ranking 33 ATP).

“Sanremo has always been one of the main centers of our tennis region with its 125 years of history – says Andrea Fossati, president of FIT Liguria and vice president of Coni Liguria – Many events have been held here starting from the end of the Fifties with the Cup challenge Davis between Italy and France with Pietrangeli, Sirola and Merlo to get to the seventies with category and youth championships, ten consecutive years of Challenger with the Memorial Tessitore and various editions of the Summer Cup, European Under 14 team championships.

The program includes qualifications on Sunday 3 and Monday 4 April, the day of the first matches of the singles draw. Tuesday 5 first and second round of singles and first round of doubles, Wednesday 6 round of eight of single and first and second round of doubles, Thursday 7 quarter-finals of singles and doubles, Friday 8 semifinals of singles and doubles (starting at 11 ), Saturday 9 final of the singles at 11 and of the double at 14.
