MotoGP is staged in Austin for the fourth round of the season, but contracts are being discussed behind the motorhomes in the paddock. The dialogues between team and manager are becoming more and more close, we go in search of certainties to better plan the future. The factory teams want to have clear ideas by the end of May and world champion Fabio Quartararo is at the center of the games. The disappointing performance of Termas de Rio Hondo prompted the Yamaha rider to sound an alarm bell, opening the door to a possible change of livery for next year. But it will not be the only negotiation underway.
MotoGP at work behind the scenes
A possible passage of Quartararo to Honda or Suzuki could unleash a domino effect on the riders market. But the renewals of the Withu RNF and LCR satellite teams with the respective Yamaha and Honda manufacturers are also to be discussed. In the case of Lucio Cecchinello’s team, the renewal with HRC seems almost obvious, the same cannot be said for the formation of Razlan Razali, who will have to offer reassuring financial guarantees to the Iwata manufacturer. Furthermore, both teams can expect requests from Suzuki and Aprilia who are desperate for a satellite team.
Pramac and Ducati have been firmly anchored since 2005, Tech3 has signed a five-year contract with KTM until 2026, Mooney VR46 will remain linked to Ducati for at least two seasons, Gresini Racing has been committed to the Borgo Panigale manufacturer for three years. LCR has been collaborating with Honda since 2006, the last renewal dates back to 2020 when he signed a two-year partnership until 2022. But Lucio Cecchinello has never made any secret of having received offers from Aprilia and Suzuki, while always remaining faithful to the brand. Golden forward, who in turn would not want to be left without a satellite team in the next two years. But between Livio Suppo and Lucio Cecchinello there are good relations that have deep roots in the past, so the consultations are imaginable and real.
Yamaha and Razali: deadline in June
Divergent situation for Razlan Razali who, after Petronas’ farewell, had to re-establish the team while remaining with Yamaha, but with a fixed contract, before having clearer ideas. By June there will be the official announcement, so far the results of Andrea Dovizioso and Darryn Binder are not giving great emotions. Furthermore, Pierer Mobility AG does not reject the idea of a third MotoGP team in the not too distant future with the GASGAS brand. The KTM MotoGP Academy, with riders such as Pedro Acosta, Sergio Garcia and Ayumu Sasaki, has an inexhaustible potential for future riders who are just waiting for the right opportunity to land in the top series of the World Championship.
