TRY TO ELIMINATION An incredible elimination race in the Moto2 class opened on the Sunday of the Grand Prix of the Americas! Four of the top five riders in the world championship standings have fallen until this morning: Vietti (1st), Canet (2nd), Chantra (3rd) and Lowes (5th), took advantage Ai Ogura and above all a sumptuous Tony Arbolino, who went on to win his first career race in the middle class! The Milanese driver kept his cool and from third position, when he saw first Vietti and then Canet fall, he found himself in the lead to defend himself from Dixon and Ogura. In the end, Arbolino won by moving to third position in the general classification behind Vietti and the Japanese Ogura who preceded the finish line. Third Dixon. Fourth place for Marcel Schrotter with a position given to him by Cameron Beaubier, who crashed on the last lap and from which more was expected in the home race, also considering the pole position from which he started. Many crashes on the windy Texan day, including a giant triggered by Chantra on the first lap (five riders involved) and those of Zaccone, Antonelli and Corsi. The only other Italian in the points is Romano Fenati, fifteenth.
THE RACE Vietti and Canet start well from the front row and pass Beaubier at the first corner and begin to dictate the pace of the race right away, behind them the American slides back while they push Arbolino and Dixon hard. But the highlight of the departure is the fall of five pilots flying to the ground: Sam Lowes, Somkiat Chantra, Zonta van der Goorbergh, Gabriel Rodrigo and Fermin Aldeguer. After a few rounds of study, Canet breaks the delay, overtakes Vietti and tries to accelerate. The VR46 rider tries to keep up but with 14 laps from the end he slips and says goodbye to the race and, perhaps, to the top of the standings. A few minutes before Vietti had also fallen Pedro Acosta, from fifth position, but with Canet on the run, Tony Arbolino and Jake Dixon try to shorten the distance, taking the Japanese Ogura with them. For a couple of rounds Canet continues his forcing but on the eighth step he lies down too, leaving free track to Tony Arbolino, Jake Dixon and Ai Ogura, the leading trio when there are 10 laps to go. The first three are the last survivors to run on decent times, already the fourth, Schrotter, is one second slower. For a few laps the gap between Arbolino and Dixon ranged from one second to one and a half seconds, until 8 laps from the end the British’s tire collapsed and the Italian suddenly jumped to +3 ” . The Japanese Ogura takes advantage of the collapse, passing Dixon but does not have the pace to catch Tony. The laps follow one after the other until the finish line and the Arbolino’s first victory over Ogura and Dixon. Fourth Marcel Schrotter ahead of Navarro, Bensneyder, Alcoba, Roberts, Fernandez and Baltus. Missing from the list Cameron Beaubier, fourth until the penultimate lap and crashed on the last lapending up outside the points.
