R.omano Albesiano is a very calm engineer, as well as very good. It’s hard to get an emotion out of him. “It was certainly beautiful, a confirmation, a relief: we put up a cross. We have reached an important level, but we must remain there ”.

In Argentina there was a new awareness, Romano explains why: “Because the data were irrefutable, it was clear that we were competitive” In the podcast, the Aprilia Racing technical director retraces the steps taken in Noale.

“Aprilia won the SBK world championship in 2014 and in 2015 the company decided to enter MotoGP: we thought it was easier, we were convinced that with the level reached in SBK, with very little increase, we could play for it. It was a nasty surprise and from there a continuous run-up has begun. In 2016 the first real MotoGP of the new Aprilia course arrived; Aleix Espargaro arrived in 2017, immediately demonstrating his potential; in 2018 we had a decline; in 2019 we took Andrea Iannone, some aspects of the bike were not yet ready; in 2020 the V90 ° engine arrived, which gave us a better balance; from there was born 2021 and then 2022. In all this, Massimo Rivola arrived in 2019, there was an important reorganization, I was able to focus only on technique, the company has invested more “.

The Albesiano engineer is convinced that the RS-GP can be competitive all year round and on almost all tracks. But how much do concessions affect? “The real benefit is that you can eventually remedy an engine glitch. But otherwise it doesn’t change much “. We speak of course of Maverick Vinales: “We expected some difficulties, in MotoGP he had always raced with the four in line: you have to ride in another way. But from the warm up in Indonesia he took an important step forward thanks to a very different set-up.

But with the Piedmontese engineer we also talk about MotoGP in general, what the rider must do at the start, because now it is more difficult to overcome, how much the aerodynamic appendages and the “lowering devices” affect the driving “. Can Aprilia be the reference again? “We have reached a good level in all sectors. But of course you can always do more ”.

The complete episode, number 62, of #atuttogas, the podcast, can be listened to from next Sunday, April 10, 2022, on and on the main podcast platforms.
