MotoGP, Andrea Dovizioso on tilt: “It never happened”

The MotoGP weekend in Argentina is another chapter to be archived for Andrea Dovizioso and Razlan Razali’s Yamaha RNF team. 18th at the end of qualifying, once again he finds himself dealing with a YZR-M1 far from his driving style. In addition to complaining about the problems inherent in the 2022 prototype: lack of grip at the rear and top speed on the straights. This time there is also human error: at the start he forgets to unlock the front lowering and is forced to return to the pits after one lap.

Andrea Dovizioso under tension

In Mandalika an electronics problem put an end to the race after a few laps, in Termas de Rio Hondo it’s the tension that makes bad tricks. Difficult to ride relaxed starting from the sixth row and with a motorcycle that does not react to commands after the traffic lights go out. The MotoGP veteran returns to the pits and realizes he made a mistake in uninstalling the front device: the mechanics solve the problem but he was now three laps from the top and returned for a solo race. The only goal was to become familiar with the bike, to grind kilometers ahead of the next match in Austin in a few days.

Andrea Dovizioso crosses the finish line in last place but scoring quite decent lap times, with a personal best of 1: 39.908 after 18 laps. “I am very disappointed, it never happened. I made a mistake and forgot to unlock the front starter. I locked it, but I didn’t move the lever, I had to move to unload at the first corner. When I stopped in the pit lane I realized it was my fault. I’m really sorry for the team, because it’s something that doesn’t have to happen, but it happens when you’re not relaxed“.

The former MotoGP runner-up in difficulty

It is not a good time for the three-time MotoGP runner-up, the feeling with the Yamaha M1 is slow to arrive and even his brand mates are certainly not getting any better. Darryn Binder 18th with a gap of 28 ″ from the winner Aleix Espargarò. Franco Morbidelli retired with a puncture and Fabio Quartararo 8th after losing many positions at the start of the race due to lack of grip. For Andrea Dovizioso, the difficulties of exploiting the potential of this official M1 add up. “I don’t feel comfortable, I am not riding smoothly, I am not making the most of the potential of the bike and this causes tension. You want to do everything right from the start and I made this mistake. My pace was pretty good at the end, but I can’t be happy with this weekend anyway. I hope that in Austin we will be able to be closer“.
