For the leader of the MotoGP World Championship Enea Bastianini it was not a Saturday to remember that of the Argentine GP. After all, the Rio Hondo weekend had started badly, with the Gresini Racing team being the only one together with VR46 having to wait until 4 in the morning before being able to open the boxes with materials from Mandalika. It is not a justification, after all Luca Marini’s front row breaks the alibi. But the delay of the aero cargo certainly affected the work of the Ducati satellite team in the garage.
Unfortunate qualifications for Bastianini
11th time at the end of the first MotoGP free practice session, only 16th in FP2. The ‘Bestia’ embarked on Q1 with his Desmosedici GP21, but it was not possible to hit Q2 by 43 thousandths. The Hondas of Espargarò and Nakagami have the upper hand. The rider from Romagna, however, will start from 12th position on the grid after the penalty inflicted on Jack Miller. “It was a bad day, I couldn’t bring out our potential, we had a lot of problems and we had to stop many times. I did a few laps, too bad. Even when I started getting serious I was out for a few thousandths, both in FP2 and in qualifying. Unfortunately, luck was not on our side“.
In the Ducati Gresini pits work is being done in view of the warm up (15:20 Italian time) to try to improve the sensations on the Argentine layout. The telemetry of his brand colleagues who jumped to the front row after qualifying are being examined by Enea Bastianini. “We need to figure out what to do to improve my feeling a bit, but I think we were fast enough in the end, but it wasn’t enough to stay in front. We are still off track, we do not have a clear picture of the situation. We will look at the data from Jorge Martin and Luca Marini who were very fast – admitted Bastianini –. Tonight I hope she will sleep, but we are working to make a good comeback“.
Set-up error for ‘Diggia’
An uphill MotoGP Saturday also for his box mate Fabio Di Giannantonio who gains 20th place on the starting grid. “Tough day for us because we made a mistake this morning. We wrapped up a bit by ourselves looking more at my feeling than at the track conditions which changed a lot during the day“. In free practice the Roman driver adopted a wrong set-up for his GP21 and was forced to turn around, thus managing to find a better feeling. “It’s a shame because we lost a bit of time, but come on in the end … These are rookie mistakes. Fortunately, we will have 40 minutes of warm-up to make the most of“.
