The two former teammates seem to be experiencing the opposite situation compared to last season: the French, who was happy and content with the Iwata House last year, this year is shedding bitter tears, while the Spanish, landed at the House of Noale seems to have found serenity.
Quartararo and a situation to change as soon as possible
How much can the MotoGP World Championship change from one year to the next? A lot, indeed a lot. This start to the season is showing us once again the unpredictability of the World Championship. If at the end of the 2021 season Fabio Quartararo he could celebrate the world title together with his M1, this year the idea of leaving the blue team it seems more and more concrete: sure, a good result arrived in Indonesia, when the Frenchman, even in the rain and therefore in conditions that were not at all optimal for him, managed to finish second. But this was the only happy result out of three races, as he finished ninth in Qatar and eighth in Argentina. Not to mention the world ranking which, although we are only at the beginning of the season and therefore anything can still happen, sees it fifth with 35 points to his credit.
In recent years, since there has not been a real leader who has dominated all the races from start to finish, an important factor has emerged: constancy pays off. And if Fabio fails to win the races, at least in the Top 5 he must always manage to get there to have a chance for a title. Which, however, is not happening at the moment. Already during the pre-season tests Quartararo had expressed his discontent on the new M1 which did not have a top speed like that of the rivals, but now a real hurricane is unleashed in the Iwata House with the driver from Nice who is courted by other teams and who in this regard, after the race in Argentina said : “The change of jersey is something to think about. My future is not clear to me, so it’s time to think about it and take my time ”.
Vinales made the right choice
And speaking of consistency of results, who do we find at the top of the world rankings? Aprilia rider Aleix Espargarò who, thanks to a victory in Argentina and a fourth and a ninth place in Qatar and Indonesia, can smile cheerfully, especially thanks to an RS-GP and to a team that has finally managed to reach the top and that has nothing to envy to the opponents. And with Aleix, Vinales too can only rejoice: after the defeat of 2021, the difficulties and frustration with Yamaha, the divorce and the arrival in Aprilia, the doors of happiness have also opened for him. The right adaptation to a bike that is very different from Yamaha is still missing, but Maverick certainly does not lack talent and with the RS-GP you can get everything you want.
If last year he cried bitter tears, and above all he didn’t feel like he belonged to a team that valued him, in the Aprilia house he has nothing to worry about. Apparently between him and Quartararo the roles were reversed: if the Spaniard was unhappy, he now smiles, while the Frenchman can only travel with a lot of problems that certainly do not make the job easier. To return to rejoice it will be indispensable, even for him, leave Yamaha?
