Suzuki and Aprilia in evidence in the first free session of the MotoGP Austin GP, fourth round of the 2022 world championship, but smiles for the others too. The best time in FP1 on the Texan track goes to Alex Rins who places his Suzuki at the top of the standings with a time of 2.04.007, ahead of Maverick Vinalez’s Aprilia, trailing by only 8 thousandths. If for the Noale manufacturer this is a nice confirmation after Aleix Espargaro’s victory in Argentina, for Rins, although slowed down by technical problems at the beginning of the session and the only driver in action to have won here besides Marc Marquez, it is a big sign of competitiveness. Third time for Jack Miller, with the factory Ducati, 0.430 behind: the Borgo Panigale manufacturer places two more bikes in the top-10, thanks to the 7th place of Enea Bastianini (Gresini team), at 0.587, and the 10th of Johann Zarco (Pramac team) at 0.886: the French, running out of petrol at the end of the session, was also pushed to the pits (below) by Miller in a ‘taxi driver’ version.

marquez ok

Good fourth time for Fabio Quartararo with Yamaha, at 0.443, preceding Marc Marquez. The Spaniard, eagerly awaited to return after missing two GPs due to the recurrence of the diplopia that emerged in the fall in Indonesia, did well: after a vehement start on the track where he won 7 times in 8 appearances, Marc is fifth at 0.462 with a Honda that also puts Pol Espargaro in the ten, 6. at 0.574 and also crashed at the beginning of the session, and Takaaki Nakagami (Lcr team), ninth at 0.737. The leader of the world championship, Aleix Espargaro, is eighth with Aprilia at 0.679. Five different bikes in the first five places of the first round of Free Practice confirm the trend of uncertainty and leveling that characterizes this first part of the season.

wets back
