According to what Moto.it has learned, the ballot between Martin and Bastianini to replace Miller in the factory team would have been won by the Spaniard, beyond the great results of the Italian. In any case, it is a very difficult choice for the Borgo Panigale company
April 12, 2022
S.according to what I learned from Moto.it, Ducati would have chosen the rider to join Pecco Bagnaia in 2023 instead of Jack Miller: the “ballot” between Jorge Martin and Enea Bastianini would have been won by the Spaniard.
According to what was gathered in Austin, the decision has already been made, beyond the two sensational victories of Bastianini with the Gresini team GP21.
Carlo Pernatmanager of the driver at the top of the world championship, categorically denies and assures that no contract has yet been signed for 2023but two different sources, both very valid, reliable and external to the Borgo Panigale company, affirm instead that it would focus on Martin.
Obviously the conditional, at this moment, is a must, but Moto.it believes that the road is marked, unless there are last-minute second thoughts. Getting the current Pramac team driver to join the official team is – in this case without parole – the only way to keep Martin in Ducati: if another proposal were made to Jorge, he would be refused. There is no doubt about this.
AndIt is clear, however, that Enea Bastianini’s results do not facilitate any choice, assuming it hasn’t already been taken. Before the start of the championship, most of the insiders in the paddock believed Martin more talented and faster than Bastianinitherefore the right driver to bet on for the future.
They also thought so at Borgo Panigale, but this Bastianini – who, let’s not forget, has already beaten Martin in Moto2 – has made many change their opinion. Will he succeed with Ducati too? It is clear that an experienced and good manager like Pernat will not accept too many compromises, but a factory bike – therefore a GP23 – with the talented engineer Alberto “Pigiamino” Giribuola and all the assistance of Borgo Panigale, could convince Carletto and Enea to remain in the Gresini Team.
Alternatives for Bastianini? To the microphones of SkyPernat said that: “for Enea it takes an Italian teambecause he was not happy with the Spaniards (referring to the Alzamora team at the time of the Moto3, nda) “, Thus excluding HRC, but was later denied, again on Sky, by Enea himself:”I would have no problem, I was fine with the Spaniards“.
If it comes to a break with Ducati, there would be no lack of alternatives to Bastianini, starting with Hondawho absolutely needs at least one fast driver, more likely two.
Miller would accept Pramac
Lto Jack Miller’s Streetin any case, has long been marked in the team Ducati. On Sunday evening, after the race, with a specific question about his future and if he would accept, eventually, to return to the Pramac team, Jack did not hesitate: “I would like to continue racing with Ducati, Pramac would also be fine“. As for Johann Zarco, the possibility that your contract will not be renewed is very realbut the Frenchman still has some time to try to convince the Ducati men.
