Traffic block for Giro d’Italia passage: roads and streets closed

The Giro d’Italia today, Thursday 19 May, arrived in Genoa: after having traveled the hinterland, at around 16.20 the cyclists passed the San Giorgio bridge, towards the center and by 16.30 the arrival of the first in via XX Settembre. To win the stage, Stefano Oldani.

Path

The passage of the twelfth stage Parma-Genoa, upon entering our region was structured as follows: the first part in constant ascent until the cyclists entered Liguria from the Bocco Pass. Quick descent on Carasco to enter Val Fontanabuona, traveled westwards, always slightly uphill, up to Ferriere where the ascent of the Colletta di Boasi began.

Descent on Bargagli and Cavassolo and – once they entered the territory of Genoa – the athletes climbed the short but challenging Valico di Trensasco.

Once in Bolzaneto, the race covered a short stretch of highway overcoming the Polcevera stream on the new Ponte San Giorgio. Arrival in the center with a slight ascent in via XX Settembre (the video). The stage is 202 km long.

The next stage, the thirteenth, will take place between Sanremo and Cuneo.

Highway closures

Below are the closures on the motorway between 3.40pm and 5.30pm on Thursday 19 May:

On the A10 Genoa-Savona:

  • the section between Genoa Airport and the connection with the A7 Serravalle-Genoa towards Genoa will be closed. Furthermore, the entrance to the Genova Aeroporto station will be closed in both directions, towards Genoa and Savona.

On the A7 Serravalle-Genova:

  • the section between the connection with the A10 Genoa-Savona and Genoa west, towards Genoa will be closed;
  • the connection with the A10 Genoa-Savona will be closed for those coming from Genoa and heading towards Savona.

Prohibitions and changes to traffic

A long list of bans and changes to the roads for the arrival of the Corsa Rosa in Genoa will concern the city center and beyond. Here is the complete list of the roads crossed by the cycling race – including the Sopraelevata – on which there is a ban on parking and stopping. In the same streets, a ban on vehicular transit will be in force, with the exception of vehicles belonging to the event, starting from 2 hours and 30 minutes before the scheduled passage.

Giro d’Italia: all changes to buses and couriers

Furthermore, in the following streets, for specific organizational needs of the area affected by the arrival of the stage, the following measures are prescribed:

  • Via XX Settembre-Piazza De Ferrari, mountain side and west side (Reason: Preparation of the Arrival Area): stopping and stopping is prohibited from 2.00 pm to midnight on Wednesday 18 May; driving ban from 00.00 to 23.00 on Thursday 19 May.
  • Piazza De Ferrari (east side) Via Petrarca, Piazza Dante and Via Dante (Compound TV Area and Broadcaster Car Park): no parking and stopping from 2pm to 8pm on Wednesday 18 May; traffic ban from 8.00 pm on Wednesday 18 May to 11.00 pm on Thursday 19 May, with the exception of vehicles pertaining to the event.
  • Piazza della Vittoria (Open Village, Sponsor Parking, Vendor Parking, Caravan Parking):
    -Event side. in the entire motor vehicle parking area;
    – West side, in the stretch between the intersection via Cadorna and the Parking Vittoria exit ramp, in the parking lots adjacent to the “Volcanoes” and the Arco della Vittoria gardens;
    -Connection road between the east and west side of the square, motor vehicle parking on the mountain side: no parking and stopping from 2.00 pm on Wednesday 18 May to 10.00 pm on Thursday 19 May.
  • Via Fieschi, in the stretch between via XX Settembre and via Carducci, on both sides (Ammiraglie car park): no parking or stopping from 2.00 pm on Wednesday 18 May to 4.00 am on Thursday 19 May; traffic ban from 04.00 to 23.00 on Thursday 19 May, with the exception of vehicles belonging to the event.
  • Via Brigata Liguria in the stretch between via XX Settembre and via Ippolito d’Aste (Team Bus Parking): no parking and stopping from 2pm on Wednesday 18 May to 8am on Thursday 19 May; traffic ban from 08.00 to 20.00 on Thursday 19 May, with the exception of vehicles belonging to the event.
  • Parking for motorcycles and mopeds between Via Dante and Via D’Annunzio (the entire parking area) (Organization Parking): no parking and stopping from 08.00 on Wednesday 18 May to 24.00 on Thursday 19 May; traffic ban from 00.00 to 20.00 on Thursday 19 May, with the exception of vehicles belonging to the event.
  • Piazza Matteotti (Guest Parking and Quarter Stage): no parking and stopping from 2pm to 12am on Wednesday 18 May; driving ban from 00.00 to 20.00 on Thursday 19 May.
  • Section (post arrival) between Piazza De Ferrari, Via Roma and Viale Emanuele Filiberto (Suppliers’ Parking): no parking and stopping from 2.00 pm on Wednesday 18 May to 08.00 am on Thursday 19 May; traffic ban from 08.00 to 20.00 on Thursday 19 May, with the exception of vehicles belonging to the event.
  • Via Canevari, section between the intersection with Corso Monte Grappa and Piazza Raggi for the substitute terminus for AMT vehicles: no parking and stopping from 00.00 to 23.00 on Thursday 19 May.
  • Via Roccatagliata Ceccardi, both sides (technical requirements): no parking and stopping from 2pm to 8pm on Wednesday 18 May; traffic ban from 8.00 pm on Wednesday 18 May to 11.00 pm on Thursday 19 May, with the exception of vehicles pertaining to the event.

With respect to the closures in the area adjacent to the stage finish line, the following compensatory measures have been established:

  • Via Colombo, between Via della Gazzella and Via della Consolazione, will be accessible in both directions;
  • Via Colombo, between Via della Gazzella and Via Fiume can be traveled eastwards, to allow the ring route Via Fiume / Via Palmaria / Via della Gazzella / Via Colombo / Via Fiume;
  • Via XII Ottobre will be accessible, by means of a Local Police pre-filter at the entrance to Piazza Corvetto, only by residents and those entitled to it and the ban on turning into Via IV Novembre will be confirmed;
  • Via Vernazza will be accessible in both directions to allow access to the Piccapietra car park and the reversal maneuver
  • Viale Brigate Partigiane, the west carriageway, will be open in both directions in the stretch between via dei Pescatori and Via Brigate di Infteria (both passable in both directions of travel, and for the latter there is a ban on parking) for allow vehicles coming from via dei Pescatori to access Corso Aurelio Saffi.

A ban on stopping and stopping is instituted, with the application of the accessory sanction of forced removal, from 1 pm on Wednesday 18 May to 24 am on Thursday 19 May, and in any case until the needs connected with the cycling stage of the Giro d’Italia cease, on all roads affected by the passage of the race.

In the same streets, a ban on vehicular transit will be in force, with the exception of vehicles relating to the event, starting from 2 hours and 30 minutes before the scheduled passage, considered at the highest average and reported in the official time table provided by the organizers, up to 5 minutes after the passage of the vehicle bearing the sign “End of the Cycling Race”, and in any case on the basis of any requirements imposed by the Local Police.

The closing times of the roads for the passage of the race, Thursday 19 May, will be indicatively:

  • Municipality III Bassa Valbisagno, around 1.30 pm
  • Municipality V Valpolcevera and Municipality VI Middle West, around 2.00 pm
  • VIII Medio Levante Town Hall, around 14.20
