Pol Espargarò and Honda arrive in Argentina with the aim of putting a patch on the last round of MotoGP in Mandalika. After the long trail of controversy with Michelin, we are returning to the standard carcass and the double American appointment will be decisive for arriving in Europe with clearer ideas. Waiting to know the recovery times of Marc Marquez, suffering from a new case of diplopia after the accident in the warm-up in Indonesia.
Honda and feeling with the Michelins
These are decisive weeks for the future of Espargarò who has not yet signed the renewal of his contract with Honda. 2021 did not give emotions except for the podium at Misano, so the confidence will be confirmed with the results of the next races. Adapting to the RC213V turned out to be more complicated than expected, but the 2022 Evolution boasts greater rear grip that allows it to adapt to its driving style and better respond to tire needs. “In the past the bike worked very differently in terms of rear grip, rear wheel drive, corner entry configuration. It could be said that it didn’t seem made for these tires – he explains to Speedweek.com -. The other manufacturers, for whatever reason, were able to adapt to these tires very quickly. This year the bike understands the tires much better“.
Honda and Marc Marquez style
The new MotoGP seems to go in a different direction from Marc Marquez’s requests, but Pol Espargarò believes that the RC-V was never a bike designed around the Cervera champion, as is said by many. The equation seems contrary: “I believe Marc was built for the bike. The bike was like that and he was able to adapt, his skills helped him… This year’s bike is certainly very different. I don’t know if it’s okay for Marc, but if you were fast on the old bike, you should be super fast on the new one. Because it gives you extra grip, which always helps. It is safer, faster in acceleration and top speed. Cornering speed is better. And it is easier to stop because the rear wheel stays more on the ground“.
Pol’s future in MotoGP
In the coming weeks Pol Espargarò will have to put pen to paper about his future, the renewal with Honda is not at all obvious and Marc Marquez’s new injury would not play in his favor. But he never thought he made a bad choice when he left KTM to move to Honda. “When I made my decision I was sure it was the best option for me and I still believe it… The beginning was difficult for me and for everyone. Not having Marc on the team made things more difficult for me. I had questions that I couldn’t find answers to. That was a big deal“.
